The stem of the wine glass laddeled between her fingers as she sat quietly staring across the table. Ink black curls embraced her shoulders as pale ghost features looked onwards towards the gentlemen that seemed to take a seat at the very end. The sound of the clock crept slowly by only to remind her of spiders that seemed to crawl. The ache for time to speed onwards towards the future of the next few moments left her dark green eyes to stare onwards to the gentlemen that watched her.
"As we've said before Miss..." The eldest of the gentlemen was cut short of finishing his sentence by the sound of a glass sliding upon the table top. His salt peppered eyebrows raised up to look upon the young woman who seemed to stare at them rather coldly.
"As I said before Mister Anton. Neither my family nor I will allow this to occur." Her voice left her lips like silk velvet. Slowly passing through her lips as if she were only a doll and someone else controlled the voice. She closed her eyes for a moment before the flutter of her lashes revealed the hues of green that looked upon the men. "You gentlemen must understand that we will not allow this to occur. Yet you keep assuming the idea that we can not protect ourselves. Do you think us to be weak?" She dared to question their idea beliefs and values.
Anton adjusted himself for a moment before coming to relax in the presences of this dainty little female that looked upon them. He find himself to even be a bit nervous in her presences. His mustache shifting from one side to the other rather nervously. His eyes turned to the younger of the gentlemen that resided at the table.
"By all means and respect Miss Eden, we do not believe let alone see you weak nor your family." Anton remarked while trying to hide away the fact that this young woman's family actually brought fear to him. They were neither powerful in politics nor in riches and yet this young girl's family held some rather odd form of fear over them. As if they gained their respect through that very fear. Anton could not come to understand why that was and wanted to find out.
"Then Mister Anton and gentlemen you wouldn't mind leaving upon my request at this moment." She let out with easy. Darkly painted lips turned up into a soft smirk that mocked the men. Her hairs came to rest upon the arms that wrapped around her. Her nails painted black. It was a hue she was rather found of as she slowly pushed her chair back as she rose. The white blouse she wore only laid covered by the blacked vine vest that seemed to be a mark for the family. The elegant fabric held the embroided image of a rose over the left breast and rather a maze of vines around the rest of the vest except for the very back which only lay a solid hue of black. It formed to her body rather well only to fit her petit figure as she raised a hand to the gentlemen and watched their eyes follow her hair towards the door.
Anton was astonished by the grace she held in excusing them. Yet he had never been told to leave by any other family and here he was being told to leave. IT was usually his very job to force people off their land and he usually succeeded but this time was different. She was willing to fight against his rather sophisticated lies of curses and hauntings. He rose with his face turning read and his round jaw tightening with ever inch of though. How dare this girl speak for the head of her family. How dare she even declare herself to be in such a position of power. Thick fingers ran through his salt peppered hair as he turn with the gentlemen to leave. "As it may be Miss's Vine." His voice restrained from growling pass his false teeth. He was the first out the door but would not leave without a fight to gain their land.
Eden's small figure moved from behind the table. Her skirt basking round her in a billowed motion. The soft click of the heel of her boots echoed with the gentlemen's as she lead them down the corridor hallways before entering into the entrance room. She moved ahead of them with her hand reaching out and only coming to rest upon the door handle. "Gentlemen." She let out with a nod of her head. The wave of curls moved forward freely as she came to look upon all of them. "Good evening." She let out just as darkly as she had greeted them. "Mister Anton. May you stay." She let out.
The group was reluctant but started towards the door until Anton was asked to stay. They looked back towards him before he gave a gentle nod to go onwards. "Go on." His rusty voice let out before he cleared his throat. This gave him the chance to find out who this woman was and where her family had come from. His eyes looked upon the girl. "Why was the reason you requested me to stay Miss Eden?" He asked in a bit more of a settled voice then only moments ago. His old eyes watched her seem to glide away from the door.
"Only to speak with you. May I not carry a conversation with a gentleman?" She asked as she started to lead him to another part of the house. Her hands resting folded in front of her as she walked. She didn't trust him. He was after more then just the property she was settled on. She moved towards a set of mahogany double doors before swinging them open to reveal a gentleman and another older couple within the room. "James, Devon, and Violet this is Anton Redwright." She let out as she raised a hand back to the older man. The young man didn't bother raising nor looking away from the fire. Though Eden move to join him at his side as she too watched the fire.
"Mister Anton." The elderly woman known as Violet let out. Her eyes watched him with a simple nod of her head. Silk strands of her hair fell forward as they surrounded her face. Her eyes told of years and years of wisdom. Rather farther back then most could remember.
"Anton I would like you to come forward so my husband may speak with you." Eden's voice let out as the old man listened.
Anton believe the young man to be blind at the most, but he wasn't to quick to judge. His eyes rested upon the sculpted features of what almost seemed like a statue that barely moved. "James I presume?" He asked and looked around to make sure he was truly correct.
"Yes." James replied without raising his eyes from the fire. The flames seemed to dance in his eyes as he watched. His left hand resting upon the arm rest while his other hand held a wine glass. His hair lay disheveled as the black locks feel into his eye sight.
"Were you the one looking to talk to me sir?" Anton let out as he watched the gentlemen now. He could feel the aged eyes of Violet and the cold eyes of Eden on him as he watched Mister Vine. The gentleman seemed rather odd and rude. He had yet to address him let alone even try to understand the motives to this young man.
"Yes." James said finally raising his blue eyes to the gentleman before him. His body rose with grace from the chair His reflexes relaxed as ever as he came before Anton. He had long ago rested his wine glass within Eden's hands. He's hands rested upon the likeness vest that matched Eden's. His suit pants lay pressed rather nicely the most. His hand smoothed the white blouse he wore. "How dare you enter my home looking for reasons of convictions!" He's deep voice let out in a rather low whisper.
"By all means sir I do not know what you are talking about." Anton let out as James seemed to get in his face.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about." James hissed out as his eyes looked with pure hatred at Anton.
"Maybe we can settle this like gentleman sir." Anton said trying to hold himself together from shaking this young man of any reason to be enraged with him.
"Sir I believe you hold no right to ask that when you have entered my home and made such a conviction such as witch craft!" James yelled out. His hand balled up into a fist. Thin fingers wrapped together before a swing came as Anton's face and James went for another hit with his left hand.
Anton took the first two hits with preparation but the two other hits his wasn't expecting. His ribs ached slightly but not much to worry over. His eyes looked over to see the old man known as Devon standing behind him. His was being attacked with Eden and Violet taking witness to the violence. He looked to them for help but Eden watched coldly as Violet took the wine glass from Eden's hand and walked away with it towards a table.
Eden looked back towards Violet as if she had pulled her out of the focused hold of violence. She walked towards the woman to help her before she left with the woman leaving the men to fight amongst each other. "Will he be alright?" She asked Violet who lead her away from the room they were in. With a wimping yell come from the room, Eden turned for a second.
"Come child." Violet let out with warm eyes looking to Eden. She understood the girl was young but she had much to learn to be part of this family tree. She gently brushed a lock behind Eden's ear to reveal a black start behind her right ear. "Come child." She repeated again.
Eden looked to the woman and then back to the room. Cold was cruel and heartless but safe. She repeated the words in her mind as she started to follow the woman before hearing something that caught her breath in her throat. The blood curdling cry for help caused her to stop and watch Violet walk on before she turned around to head back towards the room. She had her hands resting upon the frame as she watched James before rushing in. "Stop!" She screamed as an old side over took over her. "Leave him be!" She screamed as she pulled at James's vest. "Leave him alone!" She screamed before a hand hit her in the face and she lay on the floor stunned. Her hand came to rest on her cheek before a scream seemed to slip passed her lips as James took her by the hair.
"What have I told you!" James let out as he tossed her almost across the room before she rolled into a chair.
Her eyes rose to look to Anton who looked to defeated to fight anymore. His face lay bloody and she felt she was the one to blame. "Leave him alone!" She screamed as she rose up and seemed to fly to Anton's side. She had spotted something on him that could vary well protect him from her husband's wrath. "Leave a son of Adam alone!" She screamed as she raised her hand. The very own daughter of Cain looked to her husband who looked with rage to her before realizing what he had done.
"Leave him alone!" She screamed but she knew a life had to be taken in place for the sacrifice that had to follow. Fantics where what they were called. But she couldn't stand by it anymore. "Take me in his place!" She screamed out as she looked with anger to her husband. James stared at her stunned. No child of Cain had sacrificed themselves for another until her. She was the first and Eden knew it. "Leave him be." She screamed as she held him close to her. A mere immortal look to take the place of a mortal soul. "I will take his place!" She screamed as she passed something quietly into Anton's hand.
"You will not." James let out.
"She will." Devon let out. The elder looked to the young woman. His pale brown eyes closed and he nodded. "Its been deemed and we can do nothing more boy. Let the man go. Violet!" He called for his wife. "Take this man to a room and tend to him. Eden you will follow me." He let out to Violet once she entered the room. His eyes fell upon Eden and looked away from his daughter-in-law.
Eden rose quietly as she closed her eyes and looked away from James. She walked to Violet first. "Give this to him once he's well." She handed a key to her library. She followed Devon out the door once she felt comfortable with the situation.
---
Time had long pass and Anton found himself in this library that belong to Eden. He hadn't seen her since that night. He never heard her voice or the echoing intellegence behind it. His eyes looked towards the books before finding something in the middle of the room. His hand touched the glass that covered an old bible. He opened the case to open it up. His fingers slowly shifting through the page of names before only two names lay upon its pages. History of knowledge lay in his hands but something made him jump.
"She'd want her own blood to have that." James let out as he leaned against a cast. "She took your place." He let out shaking his head. "I don't see why? Levon would never have let this happened." He let out disappointed in his wife.
"May I ask who Levon was?" Anton asked with suspision. His twin long ago had disappeared. Had long ago been lost and presumed dead.
"Levon Eden Redwright I believe was her maiden name." James said looking to him. "Thats your property." He let out. "All this is your's." James let out.
Anton shock his head in shock. "Impossible. She died." He said looking to James like this had become a cruel joke. "She would have been my age." He moved towards James.
"Yes she was but immortal's stop aging. We stop past a point when we are introducted into the rite of existing in silence." He let out looking to Anton.
"Maybe she became sick and tired of the style you survived by." He let out disgusted.
(Okay thats all I can write for this evening. Sorry if its seems out of tune. Thats because I haven't done a short story in a long while. I might expand on this more and fix it up with time.)
